Ghana's President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has come under fire on social media for a statement he made while delivering his waited address on the state of the economy on Sunday, October 30.
With the rising cost of living and inflation hitting an all-time high in the West African country, the president after an uproar from citizens spoke about the challenges confronting the nation.
Among other things, Akuffo Addo highlighted the challenges facing the economy and followed up with some measures his government was pursuing in order to instill confidence in it.
While he spoke about the depreciation of the currency, he used a popular French proverb to buttress his point.
He said: "Fellow Ghanaians, as the French would say, l’argent n’aime pas le bruit, to wit, money does not like noise, sika mpɛ dede.
"Where there is chaos, where there is noise, where there is unrest, you will not find money. If you talk down your money, it will go down. If you allow some unidentifiable person to talk down your money, it will go down," he stressed.
The Twi variant of the proverb, 'sika mpɛ dede' has generated a buzz on social media. While many are making a joke of the president's statement, others have given it an interpretation of their own.

So, Prez Akufo-Addo says he knows the increasing cost of living is a concern for Ghanaians, but money doesn't like noise so if we keep complaining about the crisis, there'll be unrest and we won't find money.
