The Federal Government of Nigeria yesterday, June 4, 2021, suspended the social media platform Twitter indefinitely.
This action comes after the media giant deleted the president's tweet saying the tweet violated its regulations.
Minister of Information and Culture Alhaji Lai Mohammed in a statement gave three reasons why the platform was suspended in the country.
1. Twitter was suspended in the interest of Nigeria
2. The government accused the social media site of undermining Nigeria's corporate existence
3. The minister also suggested that the suspension was part of the regulation of all OTT and social media operations in Nigeria by the National Broadcasting Commission (NBC).
The minister noted that the action taken by Twitter was suspicious and bias in nature.
Twitter after receiving a suspension from the government of Nigeria, responded saying its company is concerned about the situation and is currently investigating the matter.
