Senator Shehu Sani has tackled the President Bola Tinubu administration for renaming some federal airports after some notable Nigerians.
In a memo signed by the Director of Airport Operations, Mrs Joke Olatunji, President Tinubu directed the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria to rename about 15 federal airports.
The lists includes; 1. Akure Airport – Olumuyiwa Bernard Aliu
2. Benin Airport – Oba Akenzua II
3. Dutse Airport – Muhammad Nuhu Sanusi
4. Ebonyi Airport – Chuba Wilberforce Okadigbo
5. Gombe Airport – Brigadier Zakari Maimalari
6. Ibadan Airport – Samuel Ladoke Akintola
7. Ilorin Airport – Gen. Tunde Idiagbon
8. Kaduna Airport – Hassan Usman Katsina
9. Maiduguri Airport – Gen. Mumammadu Buhari
10. Makurdi Airport – Joseph Sarwuan Tarka
11. Minna Airpor – Mallam Abubakar Imam
12. Nassarawa Airport – Sheikh Usman Dan Fodio
13. Osubi Airport – Alfred Diete Spiff
14. Port Harcourt Airport – Obafemi Jeremiah Awolowo
15. Yola Airport – Lamido Aliyu Mustapha
Taking to micro-blogging platform, Twitter, Shehu Sani slammed President Tinubu's choices.
He noted that there are well deserving Nigerians who deserved such recognition and not the politicians names in the list.
He tweeted;
"Those who deserved their names on Maiduguri Airport; Lt Col Abu Ali lost his life on the frontlines in Borno State after he courageously led series of successful battles against terrorists. Yakubu Fannami was a student who grabbed a suicide bomber thereby saving the lives of hundreds of worshippers in a Maiduguri mosque."
Other Nigerians, supported Senator Shehu Sani's opinion, as they took to his comment section to share their thoughts;
I get your point Sir, but believe me, there are a lot of other brave heroes that you've never heard of still at the frontline giving their everything for Nigeria. Naming a military monument after Abu Ali would be more appropriate.

Unfortunately, Nigeria has a problem identifying the true heroes.

Unsung heroes that deserved recognition and national awards ???? were denied but political rogues...who have stolen much from the public coffers our airports, and university institutions were named after them. What a wicked world!

I wonder what they will name the next batch graduating in 4 or 8 years, more rural airports might be required or maybe refineries, El Rufai Refinery Kaduna, Asari Dokubo Refinery PH, James Ibori refinery Warri, how about Yahaya Bello steel Ajaokuta

Unfortunately we have always allowed our ruling elite dictate who should be honoured. For me Lt Col Abu Ali deserves to have that airport named after him. The man led from the front and wouldn't want his men to loose their lives under his watch.

The truth of the matter is, when will our leaders start recognising the efforts of our youth and have their names inscribed on gold. All I see all the time is their self centeredness. Themselves, themselves alone. The likes of these gallant young men would have been considered.

They couldn't even name any after the late Umaru Musa Yar'adua or late Prof. Dora Akunyili. May their souls rest in perfect peace.. Amen. pic.twitter.com/JQ3L8i93ep
