‘You are a hero’ – Exchange between Senator Natasha and Oby Ezekwesili

Suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has described former Minister of Education Oby Ezekwesili as a hero following her encounter with Senator Onyekachi Nwebonyi during a Senate committee panel on Tuesday, March 26, 2025.

Ezekwesili represented Senator Natasha at the hearing on her sexual harassment allegations against Senate President Godswill Akpabio. During the session, a heated exchange erupted, leading to the use of unprintable language.

Reacting to the incident, Natasha apologized for the insults Ezekwesili endured, calling her a true icon of integrity, courage, and visionary leadership.

She emphasized Ezekwesili’s unwavering commitment to good governance, education, and democracy, which continues to inspire generations.

“Dr. @obyezeks, Ma’am, I apologize for the insults. Know you took them for me… for us… as a mother and as a leader. Know that you are a true icon of integrity, courage, and visionary leadership. Your unwavering commitment to good governance, education, and democracy continues to inspire generations. A champion of accountability… Nigerians appreciate you. I celebrate your brilliance, resilience, and selfless service. You are a hero,” Natasha wrote on her X page.

In response to Natasha’s post, Ezekwesili expressed her gratitude for the kind words following the incident with Senator Nwebonyi.

The former minister stated that the exchange was a small price to pay to see Nigeria become a beacon of hope and a country where the girl child no longer inherits battles and wars fought by previous generations.

She said, "Very kind words, dear Senator Natasha Akpoti Uduaghan @NatashaAkpoti!
Yet to me, a torrent of insults from any source is but a little price to pay in our resolve to see a Nigerian that Becomes. Our daughters and granddaughters must never inherit battles and wars we should have fought and won for them.
An unjust society that silences women and vulnerable people can never Become.
We all must refuse that for Nigeria. We STAND ON!"

Their posts attracted reactions from Nigerians.

@ekosystem26: I am very much proud of our Nigerian women. They are courageous, resilient, and exceptionally brave. They speak truth to power and stand their grounds to defend it, they don't speak from both sides of their mouth as we see in most of our men. Salute.

@ahilekashami: Keep on restricting their airflow Ma. Evil thrives when good people keep silent. We are always grateful to you for speaking up, and this gives us hope. If only we had more voices like yours.

@QUEENOFDBLUES1: God bless you ma'am.
Their insults can not change who you're ma'am.
I celebrate you always

@olas411: We all know that our NA has been taken over by miscellaneous miscreants unfortunately. One day /someday.....God will deliver us.

@ChinedumOc: I stand with you, I stand with the safety of my mother, my daughters, I stand with @NatashaAkpoti and I stand with all the women that are facing suppression and intimidation in an unjust society.

@sirchrisnenye: Welldone both of you!. Keep fighting the corrupt system
