The impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, alleged to have committed multiple statutory and financial infractions, has sparked massive reactions from Nigerians.

On Monday, January 13, 2025, lawmakers voted to remove Obasa and elected Mojisola Meranda Ojora as the new Speaker of the State House of Assembly.

Following the impeachment, Nigerians took to social media to share their thoughts, including the chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Joe Igbokwe, who supported the removal of Obasa as Speaker.

Igbokwe believed that Obasa had not been working well with the state governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

He said, “The deed is done in LAHA!!! Hon Mudashiru Obasa impeached as Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly for gross misconduct and abuse of office. Hon Mojisola Melanda Ojora is the new Speaker”.

Commenting on his own post, the APC chieftain wrote, “He was on Governor Sanwo Olu’s neck for years. Every attempt to persuade him to work with the Governor fell on deaf ears. Many interventions by GAC members did not help matters”.

Investigative journalist, David Hundeyin has also voiced his concerns over the impeachment of Obasa. In a post shared on his X page, Hundeyin stated that soon Obasa will run and prostrate before Seyi Tinubu, the son of President Bola Tinubu and lobby for favours when he becomes governor of the state.

“The one thing that all "Yoruba ronu" people have in common is that they are spineless cowards. That's what drew them to such a despicable hivemind ideology in the first place. Obasa will not only run away and hide, but he will also prostrate for Seyi Tinubu (his son's agemate) and even lobby him for favours when he becomes governor. If you show me a "Yoruba ronu," I'll show you a worthless coward without a single hint of prick between his legs. Once you understand these people, you cannot fail to predict them.”

Controversial videos of Obasa presiding over the house have resurfaced, with many claiming his utterances were also part of the reason for his impeachment.
