Primate Elijah Ayodele, the leader of the INRI Evangelical Spiritual Church, has appealed to President Bola Tinubu to take decisive action in resolving the ongoing political tensions in Rivers State to prevent potential violence.
The cleric expressed concerns that the situation, if left unchecked, could escalate into assassinations and bloodshed.
Ayodele advised the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to cease hostilities against his successor, Governor Sim Fubara, whom he referred to as "God’s project," implying that divine support renders him impervious to political challenges.
"President Tinubu should intervene in Rivers politics so that it won’t lead to political assassination and bloodbath. The president should do the right thing without being partial because any insurrection in the state will have a huge impact on Nigeria as a country.
"Wike is old enough to calm down; he is doing the wrong thing fighting Fubara because he can’t win. Fubara is God’s project and cannot be removed by anyone because his maker is fighting for him," Ayodele stated.
He also warned of the possibility of a significant shift in the state's political landscape if the conflict continues, urging both Wike and Fubara to seek reconciliation.
The clergyman counseled Fubara to concentrate on his administrative duties and to ignore provocations from Wike, suggesting that responding could distract from his governance responsibilities.
Additionally, Ayodele cautioned Fubara to be vigilant of potential betrayals within his circle, emphasizing the importance of trust and loyalty in his administration.
