Wike blasts local govt chairman on live TV, demands to know what he does with revenue collection

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike has expressed concerns over the local government chairman's inability to purchase vehicles for security agencies.

During an event, the local government chairman stated that he lacked the capability to acquire a vehicle for the police or provide any assistance to the security personnel to enable them to carry out their duties efficiently.

He expressed excitement at Wike’s presence to provide vehicles for the security agencies.

“I was in Mabuchi recently, sir; you will not believe this, but most of our police divisions do not have any vehicles at all!

They have written several letters to my office, but I told them that I do not have the capacity to buy a vehicle. Thank God our minister is here; he has been doing it and by the grace of God he will do more,” he said.

In response to the local government chairman’s comment, Wike described him as an embarrassment and questioned the revenue he collects.

The FCT minister narrated how he bought vehicles, built police stations and provided water during his time as a local government chairman.

Wike said, “I was in Mabuchi recently, sir, you will not believe this, but most of our police division do not have no vehicle at all!

They have written several letters to my office and said we do not have the capacity to buy a vehicle for you, but thank God our minister is here and he has been doing it and by the grace of God he will do more.”

“I find it very disturbing that a chairman of a council will appear in public and say he has no capacity to give vehicles to security agencies. I find it very embarrassing. And then you answer the chief security of your local government, to be a city chairman. But every time you go and collect revenue, where is the money going to?

It is very embarrassing to hear you say, you cannot buy a police station one vehicle. Security is for all of us. You have a role to play as the chairman of the council.

I was chairman of council, I built police stations, I bought vehicles for them, I provided water for them. In fact, security is the key. So, if you have no capacity, then what are you doing there? Thank God, you have told us that you don’t have any capacity. We will see what will happen in the next election. You are the one who said so, I’m not the one who said so. And luckily, this is a live coverage, so you can’t deny what you said."
