Two chieftains of the ruling All Progressives Congress have criticized afrobeat artist David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, for his remarks advising Nigerians in America and black Americans against relocating to Nigeria.
During an interview on The Big Homies House podcast, the award-winning singer urged black Americans, especially Nigerians, not to return home due to the country's current economic woes.
The chieftains, Joe Igbokwe and Bashir Ahmed, in two separate social media posts, accused Davido of demarketing Nigeria to the international community and urged him to retract his statement immediately.
Joe Igbokwe, in a post on his official Facebook page, said, "My in-law Davido has made me sad by telling the world in America that Nigeria's economy is in shambles. This is very sad. I advise him to retract the statement as soon as possible. Nigeria made Davido. QED!"
Similarly, Bashir Ahmed, a former aide to Nigerian former president Muhammadu Buhari, said the remark was disappointing.
In a post on his official handle, Bashir said, "Selling out your country from foreign soil is so disappointing and unpatriotic. Public figures like Davido should know that. They should act and be seen as good ambassadors for Nigeria wherever they find themselves. @NOA_Nigeria"!
