What crime did Nnamdi Kanu commit? Set him free - Aisha Yesufu tells Tinubu

Political activist Aisha Yesufu believes that Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), has not committed any crime warranting his continued detention at the Department of State Security (DSS).

She demanded to know the specific crimes Kanu had committed to justify his arrest. Speaking on her podcast on her YouTube channel, Yesufu questioned why anyone would seek pardon from President Bola Tinubu for Kanu.

She questioned if it had become a crime for people who no longer want to be part of Nigeria to demand their exit.

Her comments come after Ohanaeze made an appeal to President Bola Tinubu to grant Nnamdi Kanu pardon and release him from custody. Meanwhile, Aloy Ejimako, lawyer for Nnamdi Kanu, slammed Ohanaeze for making such a request.

In response to the decision to seek a pardon, Yesufu stated that although she does not agree with Kanu’s methods of agitating for Biafra freedom, she believes he has not committed any crimes.

She said, “On what basis is anyone asking for political pardon? Yes, the way Nnamdi Kanu does his things we might not agree with him. I don’t agree with the way he does his things; he doesn’t agree with the way I do my own things, which is a normal thing in life.

But justice is justice, what has he done? Other than saying he wants to leave Nigeria. How can you arrest someone because his people no longer want to be part of Nigeria. Then why don’t you do a referendum? He hasn’t committed any crimes, so what pardon is anyone asking for?”

She called for Kanu to be set free and for the government to organize a referendum where the South East and the Nigerian government can engage in dialogue on the matter.
