Watch as Senator angrily walks out during IGP’s budget defense over discrepancies

Senator Peter Nwaebonyi, representing Ebonyi North district stormed out of the budget defense being presented by the Inspector General of Police (IGP) Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun.

During the reading of the defense to the NASS Committee on Police Affairs, Senator Mark Esset from Akwa Ibom raised a concern about the content of the IGP’s budget defense.

Esset pointed out that he did not have a copy of what the IGP was reading and questioned why his copy was different from what was being read.

“Mr Chairman Mark Esset is my name from Akwa Ibom State, I don’t know if I’m the only one, but I doubt. What the IGP is reading is quiet different from the document we have here. It is very important that whatever they are presenting, all members will be acquainted with it. You can’t give me a copy after this? It’s not the same thing. The zonal offices he has mentioned, are not captured here.”

Senator Nwaebonyi also support his colleague Senator Esset’s claim but their concerns received criticisms. Although other senators tried to shut them down, Senator Nwaebonyi refused to remain quiet and staged a walk out.

He stated that he was not going to partake in such a reading surrounded by discrepancies.

Nwebonyi Onyeka Peter is a Nigerian politician. He currently serves as the Senator in the 10th National Assembly under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He holds the position of Deputy Chief Whip in the Senate.

Senator Nwaebonyi’s action has sparked reactions from Nigerians. Human right activist, Omoyele Sowore expressed disappointment at the incident.

He wrote, “Mediocrity, incompetence, corruption, conspiracy, collusion, compromise, concealment- a country run by characterless people can't make progress!”

Other Nigerians on social media wrote.

@Goods_lifes: Absolutely they are corrupt as heck, The federal need to act fast

@ugwueze_es57952: corruption smells everywhere, will be hard for the country to develop

@efe_edwards: Again I say Nigerians like their chains. As corruption is happening live, a reasonable senator stood up against it and you noticed other senators are shouting him down. The same people who swore to serve Nigerians and protect their interests!

@amlosingweight: I'm trying to wrap my head around the whole situation. Like, how do you present two different copies of your budget for defense? Even when found out, there wasn't any aota of remorse or surprise from him, just strong confidence and vibes.

@holymoses70: To even see that the committee chairman allowed that go on despite the disparity in the document is despicable.
