Wasteful govt; N8 billion to do what? – Kemi Olunloyo fires Tinubu, Adelabu for trying to scam Nigerians

President Bola Tinubu and Minister of Power, Bayo Adelabu, have come under fire from investigative journalist Kemi Olunloyo.

In a video shared on her social media page, Olunloyo questioned the decision of the Minister to spend N8 billion educating Nigerians on how to pay electricity bills.

Adelabu had announced that his outfit would be spending N8 billion in the 2025 budget to educate Nigerians on the need to promptly pay their electricity bills.

The minister made this statement when he appeared before the National Assembly joint committee on power on Monday, January 13.

He explained that the advocacy would be conducted through social, digital and print mediums to reach all Nigerians. Adelabu emphasised that many Nigerians need orientation to understand that the power sector is a national asset that requires protection.

Adelabu said, “We are a nation of over 200 million people. So we need to go through all the loopholes, through social media, through digital media, through the print media, to actually orientate and do this advocacy. So we have N8 billion.

“In terms of advocacy, we believe that our people need to be re-educated. They need to be re-orientated to know that the power assets are national assets, and we should all jointly own it.

“Our people need to know that they should avoid power theft. When they see something, they must say something. Our people need to know that they must pay their bills regularly. All these need to be passed across. We believe that the power sector needs to do a lot of advocacy, re-orientation and re-education of our people,” Adelabu said.

Displeased by this announcement, Kemi Olunloyo tackled the Power Minister, accusing him of attempting to scam Nigerians.

She wrote, “Stop scamming Nigerians No country spends N8B to educate citizens on how to pay electric bills ELECTRICITY BILL FLEECING FG of Nigeria to spend N8bn on orientating Nigerians on payment of electricity bills. Minister. Bayo Adelabu stop this attempt to scam Nigerians. Do a visual PSA in Yoruba, Pidgin, Igbo and Hausa and run it on NTA and social media. I just gave you a $4M (N8B) FREE ADVICE yet your stupid wasteful government won’t hire me.”

Olulonyo further gave a rundown of how the government can achieve their plan to educate Nigerians on how to pay their electricity bills without spending such an amount of money.
