A Nigerian man based in the United Kingdom (UK), James Akinwande, has purchased a new pair of shoes and a wristwatch which he handed over to the office of the UK Conservative Party leader, Kemi Badenoch.
Akinwande, who identifies himself as a legal representative, bought the items as replacement for what Badenoch claimed was stolen from her brother by men of the Nigeria Police Force.
Badenoch, born to Nigerian parents before moving to the UK at 16, has been making negative remarks about Nigeria of late.
In a latest remark, Badenoch stated that she doesn't want the UK to become like Nigeria with terrible government.
Her remarks have been condemned by the Presidency, through the Special Adviser to the President on Policy Communication, Daniel Bwala, who said Nigeria will not be affected by her words.
According to Bwala, Badenoch's party is not the government in power in the UK, and so she can't make policies that will affect Nigeria.
He added that she's denigrating Nigeria just to gain more acceptance from her party, just as he urged her to learn from former UK Prime Minister Rishi Sunak who never talked down on India where he has roots in.
Akinwande may have also been displeased with the remarks by Badenoch, informing his decision to replace the items she claimed were stolen from her brother by the police in Nigeria.
In a video on social media, he could be seen entering a store in the UK to purchase the items before heading to the headquarters of the Conservative Party.
At the entrance, Akinwande handed the items to the security officers to give to Badenoch.
At the end of the video, he wrote: “On behalf of every proud Nigerian who felt genuinely hurt by those unfounded disparaging remarks about The Nigerian Police. We 'buy back' the stolen shoes and watch! (I hope it fits, tho..).”
Reacting, former presidential aide, Lauretta Onochie, hailed the gesture in a post on X, saying, "I just love Nigerians. A Nigerian in the UK, has replaced the items @KemiBadenoch claimed were stolen from her in Nigeria, and personally delivered it to her home."
