The heavy rainfall witnessed in Lagos on Tuesday night felled trees in the Ikoyi area of the state, leading to a blockage of roads
However, an emergency response team from the Lagos State Parks and Gardens Agency (LASPARKLagos) swiftly mobilised to address the situation.
According to the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, the fallen tree on Alexander Road was removed immediately by the emergency crew to ensure the road is cleared and safe for use.
He said the second tree, located on Bourdillon Road, was entangled with high-tension power cables.
"We’ve contacted EKEDC to initiate a controlled power outage in the morning, after which removal will commence safely," he said.
A third tree, found on McDonald Road, was also cleared immediately after operations on Alexander Road.
The commissioner added, "The emergency response team from the ministry worked throughout the night to ensure that the operation is completed in record time in order to ensure a free flow of traffic in those areas.
"We are on top of the situation and appreciate the cooperation of residents in the affected areas.
"Keeping Lagos safe and clean is a shared responsibility, and we remain committed to delivering on our mandate.
"Please continue to report such incidents to our emergency lines."
