The world’s most populous black nation, Nigeria, in the past 6 days, has been thrown into chaos following the ongoing nationwide protest to end bad governance in the country.

The nationwide protest tagged #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria started on Thursday, August 1, 2024, in many parts of the country, with citizens demanding an end to bad governance, insecurity, hunger, corruption, and high cost of living.

The protest has become a popular topic of discussion across social media platforms, igniting responses from influential Nigerians, with some physically joining the protest.

Deji Adeyangu

Activist and human rights lawyer, Deji Adeyangu, perceived as the leader of the nationwide protest in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja was physically present at the protest ground on day one.

The Barrister was seen conducting interviews in which he responded to a court injunction presented by Commissioner of Police, Benneth Igweh that requested protesters to go into the national stadium to continue their protest.

VeryDarkMan

Controversial social media activist Martins Vincent Otse popularly known as VeryDarkMan was also part of the social media personalities who joined the nationwide protest.

The social media activist, in a video clip, had earlier demonstrated his dissatisfaction with the current leadership, where he was spotted holding a placard that criticized President Bola Tinubu for failing Nigerians, similar to past leaders.

However, VDM took to the streets of Abuja on Friday, August 2, 2024, the second day of the protest to express his frustration with the continued bad governance in the country.

In the circulated video shared by the activist, the situation at his location appeared tense with teargas and live ammunition fired at peaceful protesters.

He also accused Abuja Minister, Nyesom Wike, of ordering the security personnel to pop teargas on them.

Omoyele Sowore

Nigerian politician, human rights activist, and 2023 presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), Omoyele Sowore also took to the streets to protest against bad governance in the country.

Sowore has been actively sharing live updates about the ongoing protest on his social media platform, and engaging in various interviews where he encouraged Nigerians to keep demanding the change for a better country.

Recall that the Federal Government of Nigeria placed Sowore and other alleged sponsors of the nationwide protest on a watchlist.
