Popular on-air personality, Reuben Abati has commended Akwa Ibom State Governor, Umo Eno for gifting a trader five million naira to kick-start her business over the weekend.
Governor Eno directed the Commissioner for Trade and Investment, John Etim, to conduct a background check on the trader’s business and provide her with the funds. The woman had made a direct appeal to the governor after encountering him at an event.
A young businesswoman is into cassava powder and banana product business. She explained that she currently operates from her home due to the lack of a shop.
Reacting to the gesture, Abati praised the governor for fulfilling his "happy hour" campaign promise from 2023, ensuring that the people of Akwa Ibom benefit from his administration’s initiatives.
"I just wanted to say, when Governor Umo Eno talked about happy hour, we had criticized him at the time, wondering if it would be a frivolous event," Abati said.
"But what he has done now—this is real happy hour. And it’s the kind of happy hour we endorse. Supporting entrepreneurs and small- and medium-scale businesses is a commendable move," he added.
Governor Eno’s gesture has sparked positive reactions, with many praising his commitment to empowering small business owners in the state.
