'They are indeed safe' - Police CP guarantees safety as protesters converge at Ikeja

The Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Ishola Olanrewaju Olawale, assured protesters participating in the nationwide #FearlessInOctober movement that they will be safe as they exercise their fundamental human rights.

Olawale stated in an interview with Arise TV on Tuesday, October 1, that he had met with the leaders of the protesters, who have guaranteed that the protests will be conducted within the boundaries of the law.

The protesters have gathered in Ikeja as they prepare to begin the protest.

He explained, "We had plans in place before this protest, and those plans are now in effect. The area is peaceful because we have been here since 3 am. The protesters approached us and asked for assurance of their safety. I assured them that they are indeed safe as long as they do not act unruly and stay within the boundaries of the law."

"There should not be any issues here because prior to this, I held a meeting with all the Civil Society Organizations in my office, and many of them are present here. We came to an agreement that there would be no disruption of law and order."

"If they uphold their end of the agreement, there should be no problems here today."
