Atalanta manager Gian Piero Gasperini has admitted that Nigerian international Ademola Lookman was mistakenly substituted during their Serie A encounter against Lazio.

La Dea suffered a disappointing 1-0 defeat at home to Lazio at the Gewiss Stadium on Sunday, April 6.

Lookman was substituted with 15 minutes left to play, and Gasperini explained that it was a wrong substitution due to a misunderstanding.

The Italian tactician clarified that he intended to substitute Ederson, not Lookman, adding that 'Ede' was mistaken for 'Ade'—a mix-up that proved costly.

“There was a mistake. Only Retegui was supposed to come off,” Gasperini told DAZN (via Football Italia) after the game.

“Unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding between ‘Ede’ [Ederson] and ‘Ade’ [Lookman], and we paid a high price for it,” Gasperini added.
