Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, representing Abia North, has urged former Military President Ibrahim Badamosi Babangida to write a second edition of his autobiography, Journey of Service, and disclose the names of those who prevented him from declaring M.K.O. Abiola the winner of the June 12, 1993, presidential election.
During an interview with the Senate Press Corps, Kalu stated that Babangida should reveal the identities of his accomplices, including the late General Sani Abacha and the Chairman of the National Electoral Commission, Humphrey Nwosu, who influenced his decision to annul the election results.
Recall that Babangida recently admitted for the first time that M.K.O. Abiola, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), won the annulled election.
According to Kalu, President Bola Tinubu should swear in Abiola posthumously and ensure that his portrait is displayed in the Hall of Fame alongside those of former Presidents of Nigeria.
The former Governor of Abia State also expressed his satisfaction that Babangida’s book has debunked the long-standing misconception that the 1966 coup was an "Igbo coup."
He emphasized that the coup was a Nigerian military action, planned and executed by officers from various ethnic backgrounds, but was wrongly blamed on the Igbo.
Speaking on the 2027 elections, Kalu reaffirmed that the APC is not considering any other candidate besides the sitting President, Bola Tinubu, who he believes will secure a second term.
He also praised Tinubu for disregarding the recommendations of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank, instead focusing on homegrown economic policies tailored to Nigeria’s needs.
