Support to have Seyi Tinubu as the next governor of Lagos State is increasing and popular among youths since the impeachment of Mudashiru Obasa as the Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly.

Obasa, who was impeached on Monday over gross misconduct and abuse of office, is one of those believed to be eyeing the governorship seat currently occupied by Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

Others linked to the contest is Femi Gbajabiamila, the Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu who is Seyi Tinubu's father, and also former governor Akinwumi Ambode.

The talk of Seyi Tinubu aspiring to be governor of Lagos State began in 2024 after the Coalition of Nigerian Youth Leaders (CONYL) and other groups endorsed him for the position.

However, he is yet to make any public statement to affirm such ambition neither has he denied nursing the idea of occupying the seat his father once controlled as governor from 1999 to 2007 and still does as godfather.

Amid his silence, support keeps increasing and one of such came from the Minister for Youth Development, Ayodele Olawande, who said the President’s son is qualified to be the governor of Lagos State.

During an appearance on the Mic On podcast, the minister said, “He’s not too young to become a governor.”

According to him, Seyi Tinubu is a well-trained young man who is committed to leadership and is filled with the desire to see Nigeria work.

Olawande, however, dissociated Seyi Tinubu from the campaigns by groups seeking to see him become governor.

With Obasa weakened politically, the campaign for Seyi Tinubu has moved from an effort by groups alone to include individuals as seen on social media.

An X user, @obi_Nwosu, said, "If Seyi Tinubu, decides to run for Governor of Lagos state, I will support his ambition. For 15 years, I have been an advocate for Youth Inclusion in politics both practically and theoretically. In 2022 at 31, I became the youngest Reps candidate in the history of Abia State. Seeing youths in leadership position gives me joy, and Seyi Tinubu is good to go."

@FS_Yusuf_ said, "We are also rooting for Seyi Tinubu as the next governor of Lagos State."

Despite increasing support for an ambition he's yet to declare, opposition is also mounting against Seyi Tinubu who currently has a campaign poster of himself going viral.

The opposition is mainly fueled by the believe that it is absurd for Seyi Tinubu to rule Lagosians after his father who is the current President did the same.

An X user, @DanBornoReal, said, "Lagos state citizens will be the most stupid people on earth if they allow Seyi Tinubu to emerge as their governor."

@de_generalnoni said, "Whoever made this rubb!sh poster, should receive the memo now. We will oppose it with everything in us. Seyi Tinubu can not be contesting for governorship while father going for presidency! This is wrong and it will never stand."
