Galatasaray's Super Lig fixture against Adana Demirspor was abandoned in dramatic fashion after the away side walked off the pitch on Sunday, February 9.
The matchday 23 league fixture came to an abrupt end after the referee awarded a controversial penalty to Galatasaray in the 11th minute of the game.
According to Football Italia, Adana Demirspor’s Semih Guler was adjudged to have fouled Dries Mertens inside the box, a call the away side protested against.
New signing Alvaro Morata converted from the spot, which would have been his first Galatasaray goal for the club.
Adana Demirspor continued the game after conceding the penalty until an injury to Yusuf Barasi prompted a discussion among the players and their coach, Mustafa Alper Avci.
The final decision by the players and club officials was to leave the pitch in protest against the poor nature of refereeing in the league.
