The arrest of Sunday Adeniyi Adeyemo, popularly known as Sunday Igboho in Cotonou has generated reactions from Nigerians since it became public knowledge.
The self-acclaimed secessionist leader was arrested in Cotonou, Benin on Monday, July 19, 2021, after he reportedly attempted to flee the country from the West African nation.
Reports say he was arrested by Nigeria's secret police.
A source privy to his departure from Nigeria said he had perfected plans to secretly escape from Nigeria through Cotonou and was heading to Germany.
Reacting, Reno Omokri, a former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan said the arrest of Sunday Igboho is "unfortunate".
He added: He is a hero freedom fighter who defended us. We must also defend him and gather resources for his legal defense. Igboho deserves the same commitment from us, that Buhari is showing to killer herdsmen
