Stop milking Nigeria like a cow or we will all die - Obi of Onitsha tells politicians

The Obi of Onitsha, His Royal Majesty Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, has issued a warning to Nigerian politicians who are looting from the country, urging them to prioritise the interests of the people over their personal gains.

He made these remarks during a public presentation of the book Bold Leap, authored by Senator Chris Anyanwu.

The royal highness expressed concern about the level of corruption in Nigeria, fearing that the country will soon be depleted.

He bemoaned the lack of accountability and commitment to good governance among some politicians.

President Bola Tinubu was represented by the Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, Hon. Zaphaniah Bitrus Jisalo.

Former President Olusegun Obasanjo, Chairman of the event, was represented by former Senate President Senator David Mark, while former President Goodluck Jonathan was represented by former Senate President Senator Anyim Pius Anyim.

Other notable figures present at the event included the Emir of Kano, Sanusi Lamido Sanusi; Jaja of Okpobo; former governors of Anambra State, Chris Ngige and Peter Obi; PANDEF’s spokesperson, Dr. Obiuwevbi Ominimini; current senators; and captains of industry.

The Obi lamented the greed of politicians who seek personal gain rather than serving the public.

He pointed out that there is still a chance to bring Nigeria back to prosperity if leaders act with integrity and use state resources for development and public welfare.

Obi commended the author of ‘Bold Leap’ for her insightful perspectives, which he believes will guide Nigeria’s youth, regardless of gender. He highlighted the book as a valuable learning tool for those who wish to learn from the senator’s experiences.

His Majesty stated, “Should we continue milking the cow, it would die. In this country, since independence, we’ve been talking and talking and talking. I think it’s time we start doing something. We have two alternatives: keep milking the cow until it dies or place Nigeria above everything else.

Time is not in our favor. It’s either we milk the cow to death very quickly or we can turn around the country very fast.”
