The conflict between Rivers State Governor, Governor Siminalayi Fubara, and his predecessor, Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, has rendered governance in the state ineffective.

On Wednesday, May 15, five commissioners resigned from the State Executive Council, citing various reasons. These commissioners are loyal to former Governor Wike.

It has been gathered that the mass resignation is linked to Governor Fubara's plan to investigate Wike's time as governor.

Sources, who requested anonymity, mentioned that Fubara's decision to probe his predecessor unsettled Wike's loyalists, leading them to resign from the cabinet.

The sources added that the commissioners chose to resign to avoid appearing before the Judicial Panel of Enquiry investigating Wike's administration.

Commenting on the situation, Preye Samuel, a legal practitioner residing in Rivers state, stated that Fubara's decision to investigate Wike falls within his powers as the executive governor of the state.

"The actions taken by Governor Siminalayi Fubara are a positive development. He has not acted beyond the scope of the law. Those who have politicized the decision to establish a panel of enquiry are entitled to their opinions. However, it does not change the fact that issues need to be addressed, and the governor's approach is the best way to do so," he said.
