Questions are arising as to whether Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde will be contesting the 2027 presidential election after a WhatsApp group was launched to promote his aspirations.
In a series of screenshots from the WhatsApp group, it was revealed that the group has about 467 members. According to SaharaReporters, notable personality Olajide Odidiomo, a member of the House of Representatives representing Ibadan Northwest/Southwest, is also part of the group.
The publication claims that Governor Makinde’s aides, including his personal assistant on political matters, Akeem Azeez, are also members of the group. Additionally, some members of the WhatsApp group are from the local government councils of the state.
Members of the group have expressed their support for Seyi Makinde's presidential aspirations, citing his "people-oriented" approach to governance and leadership style as reasons why they believe he is the most suitable candidate for the position.
Makinde, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and a second-term governor, has not officially declared his presidential ambitions yet.
It is worth noting that Makinde was displeased with President Bola Tinubu’s administration after the Supreme Court granted local government autonomy, causing tension between the state government and the local government.
