Rivers State suffers from 'politics of bitterness' - Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Sim Fubara, has expressed dismay over the high level of politicking that occurred in the state, describing it as politics of bitterness aimed at undermining the peace and economic growth of the state.

Addressing a delegation from the House of Representatives Committee on Ports and Harbours on Tuesday, June 25, 2024, Fubara urged politicians to be mindful of their actions in order to maintain peace and progress in the state.

The delegation which was visiting Rivers State to conduct oversight functions at the Port Harcourt and Onne sea ports and Bonny channels, heard the Governor emphasising the importance of these facilities in contributing to the economic prosperity of the region.

Fubara also criticized those who have hindered the operations of these ports, stating that their actions do not serve the best interests of the state or nation.

“About nine years ago, if you understand the calculation; somebody here was the senior Minister of Transport, and nothing happened at our ports. Every progress that was supported to come to the sea ports here, because of bitter politics, was stopped. That is why our ports are moribund today.

“Today, after another eight years, which this other person suffered, we have entered into another similar era. If you love this state, it is normal to support everything that will bring progress and development to this state.

“It is not about who is sitting here today. It is about the state. If the state continues to go down, what is the interest? The only reason why we are struggling is because of the allocation,” he said.

Fubara revealed that his administration is committed to revitalizing all sea ports and Blue Sea commercial channels in the state to enhance economic growth and development.
