An unknown policeman has made damning allegations about the Nigerian police and the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS).

In a conversation with hosts of Nigeria Info's 'Sunnyside', the man said the meager earnings of members of the police force is the reason they engage in criminal activities.

The man who revealed that he lives in Ikotun in the Alimosho local government area of Lagos said that his N60K salary is woefully insufficient to carter for him and his family.

He alleged that he and a number of colleagues wish to join the now-defunct SARS because personnel of special unit enjoyed certain benefits while they are on duty.

He said: “The protest will not change anything if the police welfare is not reformed, I earn N60,000 as a Sergeant. I had to withdrawal my children from private school because I can’t continue incurring debts.”
