The Labour Party (LP) says its former presidential candidate, Peter Obi will represent the party in the 2027 general elections.
This was disclosed by the National Publicity Secretary of the party, Abayomi Arabambi on ‘Politics Today’, a programme on Channels Television on Wednesday, February 12.
According to him, the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) led by President Bola Tinubu won't have smooth sailing in the 2027 presidential elections.
“Tinubu is not just going to have it very easy in 2027, we are coming back with that Peter Obi to them so that they will know we are very serious,” he said.
Arabambi also tackled Kenneth Okonkwo, a former chieftain of the party for his decision to resign from the party.
He described the move a a "relief" to the Labour Party while accusing the actor-turned-politician of working in collaboration with President Tinubu and the ruling APC.
“And we wish Kenneth Okonkwo well, his resignation is good riddance to bad rubbish. He should not speak about the Labour Party anymore.
“There is no leadership crisis in the Labour Party. Labour Party is not going into extinction. It is just a figment of the imaginations of most of our detractors,” Arabambi stated.
Despite joining the contest only months before the polls, Peter Obi's popularity propelled him to new heights in national politics.
The former Anambra State governor came third in the polls, trailing behind former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
