Reports indicate that suspected herdsmen attacked the Ajegunle-Powerline community area of Akure North Local Government Area of Ondo State.

It was gathered that five labourers employed from Kaduna and Plateau State respectfully were gunned down during the attack.

A farmer in the community, Akin Olowolafe, revealed that the incident happened on Tuesday, January 28, at about 3pm.

According to Olowolafe, the assailant killed five of their labourers. He mentioned that the incident has been reported to the state government and the security agencies.

He complained about the lack of action taken to stop the large number of herdsmen on their farmlands.

Explaining what happened on Tuesday, Olowolafe stated that the herdsmen stormed their farmlands and started shooting sporadically, resulting in the deaths of five of their labourers. As a result, farmers have been forced to abandon their farmlands out of fear of being attacked.

Fidelis Daniel, a labourer, confirmed the incident, adding that despite several warnings, the herdsmen continue to invade their farmland. He further stated that the deceased had been taken to the mortuary.

He said: “I was inside the farm too when the incident happened, I just heard the sound of guns, and I immediately ran to the house. It was even God who saved me too they would have killed me.

“They suddenly came with weapons to destroy our crops and killed five people. Three people from Plateau State and two from Kaduna State.”
