Leaders and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, in the South West geopolitical zone have elected a new set of people to pilot the affairs of the party in the zone for the next four years.
DAILY POST reports that the election, which had participants from Oyo, Osun, Ekiti, Ogun, Ondo and Lagos States, was held in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, on Wednesday.
The election was attended by Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State and his counterpart from Osun State, Senator Ademola Adeleke, and other leaders and members of the party in the zone.
The election produced Alhaji Kamorudeen Ajisafe, who was re-elected as PDP National Vice Chairman (South-West).
Obagunwa Muyiwa was re-elected as the Zonal Secretary, while Alhaja Bosede Adedibu was re-elected as the Zonal Woman Leader.
Other executive members re-elected in the election included Adeyemo Adetunji (Zonal Treasurer), Yaya Adeleke (Zonal Financial Secretary) and Atofarati Olusanya (Zonal Publicity Secretary), among others.
Ajisafe, in his acceptance speech, promised not to act contrary to the rules and regulations of the party.
Makinde, while speaking, lauded the peaceful conduct of the zonal congress.
He maintained that the South-West PDP has given a foretaste of how the party’s National Convention would go later in the year.
Makinde said, “This elective congress is basically a funfair for us; it is for us to show the way democracy should be practised in Nigeria. So, South-West is leading the way.
“We are about to witness a rancour-free elective congress. All the people who are supposed to be here are here. INEC is here observing what we are doing and the security agents are here. This is democracy at its peak.
“I can only wish the party well. This is a foundation we are about to lay, and I believe this would also show the way towards what the PDP will do at the National Convention.”
