Former Super Eagles striker Nwankwo Kanu has tipped the Atlas Lions of Morocco as favourites to win the next edition of the African Cup of Nations.

The 48-year-old believes the North African giants will repeat the heroics of Ivory Coast by hosting and winning the 2025 African Cup of Nations.

Morocco's only triumph in the Nations Cup came some 48 years ago during the 1976 edition held in Ethiopia.

Kanu, however believes that hosting the next edition on home soil with the exceptional players at their disposal makes them overwhelming favourites to win their second continental title.

“Morocco has always boasted great players playing in Europe,” Kanu told Le Site Info as per Completesports

“But this generation is unparalleled. Yassine Bounou, Achraf Hakimi… The technicality and talent of the entire squad give this team the status of a clear favourite for the upcoming AFCON.”

“I played against Morocco in the AFCON tournaments of 2000 and 2004… They always enter the competition as favorites but often fail to fulfill the dreams of millions of Moroccans.

“By hosting the AFCON at home, Morocco has every chance to be crowned champion.”

He added, “I truly believe that the Atlas Lions will not let the next AFCON slip away, especially since the Kingdom will be the host nation.”

Morocco has maintained their number one position as the best ranked team in Africa as per FIFA rankings since historic outing at the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where they became the first African team to reach the semifial.
