Dr Charles Akpoki, the founder of Petra Ministries, has said that Nigerians are hypocrites and are the worst candidates of people to advise.
He made this statement while sharing his thoughts on the upcoming nationwide protest against bad governance in Nigeria, scheduled to be held on August 1-10.
Akpoki expressed his opinion that clergymen and politicians who condemned former President Goodluck Jonathan’s tenure for bad governance have suddenly become silent.
He bemoaned the actions of some Nigerian youths who appeared on national television to castigate their fellow youths embarking on a protest against economic hardship.
“Nigerians have become very hypocritical. I noticed that all those clergymen, politicians, and youth who protested against Goodluck Jonathan for bad governance kept quiet throughout Buhari’s era.”
“The same Nigerian youth who are eager to protest, who are suffering the most, who are unemployed, I’m seeing a few of them who have collected money, who are looking for positions of authority and relevance, coming on television to condemn their fellow youths, antagonizing their fellow youths.
“Nigerians are hypocritical, not straight forward, and the most difficult people to advise, relate to and analyze.
“Why has two famous clergymen condemning Goodluck Jonathan suddenly kept quiet?” he said.
Dr Akpoti reminded them of the alternative candidate they had during the 2023 presidential election, Peter Obi of the Labour Party.
He added that those same people who fought against Peter Obi, using tribalism and religion to discredit him are now crying about the failed government under President Bola Tinubu.
“You had an alternative to this government, a man of honour, dignity, experience and a record who contested the elections. Even though he won, you should have protested then, not now. Even though he won, there were people who fought against his emergence using tribalism, religion, regionalism and all that. These same people are now the ones crying.
I have lost interest in Nigerians and their approach to life.”
Dr Akpoti also called out Africa’s richest man, Aliko Dangote, for speaking out now that Tinubu’s government is not favouring him.
According to him, Dangote remained silent during Buhari’s government and previous administrations because he was benefiting while others lamented.
However, he is suddenly aggrieved as things are not going in his favour.
Dangote that is now complaining about this administration, kept quiet throughout Buhari’s era and throughout all the previous administrations because he was benefiting. Now that he is affected, he is now crying foul. He wants to reveal secrets that he knows all the while because it was mutually beneficial to both himself and those people.”
