Biafra agitator Simon Ekpa has announced that the October 1st celebration of Nigeria’s Independence Day has been banned in Biafra territories.
October 1st is a day set aside to commemorate Nigeria's independence. On October 1, 1960, Nigeria gained its independence from the British.
However, the self-acclaimed Prime Minister of Biafra Republic in Exile has announced that all Nigerian institutions in Biafraland will be shut down, although Biafrans will be allowed to go about their businesses.
Taking to his X page, Ekpa wrote, “Nigeria October 1st celebration is banned in Biafra territory. Over 50 million Biafrans who voted in the self-referendum will mind their businesses. Every Nigeria institution in Biafraland will be shut down tomorrow, 1.10.2024. Biafrans can go about their businesses.”
Meanwhile, Nigerian youths have announced that they will be embarking on a demonstration dubbed #FearlessOctober1. The organisers stated that the police, Department of State Services, and the military would not stop them.
The protest is to demand an end to the hardship, hunger, fuel hikes, naira devaluation, among other crises happening in the country.
