Broadcaster Rufai Oseni criticized South Africans for their treatment of
22-year-old beauty queen Chidimma Adetshina, who finished as the 1st runner-up at the 73rd Miss Universe pageant.
Adetshina represented Nigeria at the pageant after being denied the opportunity by South African organizers. She came in second place to the eventual winner, Miss Denmark, Victoria Kjaer Theilvig.
During a morning show on Monday, November 18, Oseni reacted to Adetshina's achievement by saying,
"So for all the South Africans, you can't break a girl down. You can't see. Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying crimes were not committed which that should be dealt with totally against any crime Identity crime against the law and things like that, but it was from a place of hate and spites," Oseni said.
Despite the controversy that surrounded her emergence as Miss Nigeria, Adetshina’s remarkable performance earned her accolades from both judges and audiences, who were captivated by her poise and charisma throughout the competition.
The competition, widely regarded as one of the most captivating in recent years, celebrated the talent, intelligence, and elegance of women worldwide.
In a post shared on Instagram, the event’s organizers noted the intensity of the moment, saying:
“The final two! Nigeria and Denmark, two incredible women, one unforgettable moment.
Adetshina’s achievement brings to mind the historic feat of Nigeria’s Agbani Darego, who, on November 16, 2001, became the first Black African woman to win the Miss World crown at just 18 years old.
She was also crowned Miss Universe Africa and Oceania.
