The Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation, Lateef Olasunkanmi Fagbemi, SAN, has stated that he is not acquainted with Nnamdi Kanu, the detained leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).
During the second day of the Ministerial Sectoral Updates, a media event organized to commemorate President Bola Tinubu's first year in office, Fagbemi emphasized that the cases of Nnamdi Kanu and human rights activist Omoyele Sowore are distinct.
The AGF affirmed that the IPOB leader is being detained in accordance with the rule of law.
In response to inquiries about the release of Omoyele Sowore and Sunday Igboho, the Yoruba Nation agitator, while Nnamdi Kanu remains in the custody of the Department of State Services, the Minister clarified, "The cases of Nnamdi Kanu and Sowore are not comparable. I would not recognize Sowore if I saw him, just as I would not recognize Nnamdi Kanu.
"As such, Nnamdi Kanu's detention is under the jurisdiction of the rule of law and the court.
"We should await the court's decision. The laws of the country will not permit anyone to be held without due process."
