Merger: I've never discussed with any other party - Obi

Peter Obi Peter Obi

Former presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has denied claims that he has held merger talks with former vice president Atiku Abubakar.

According to Obi, such claims are false, adding that he is a Labour Party member and will remain so.

This was as he urged the Labour Party to foster unity because it is the party of tomorrow and must put its house in order.

Obi said this at a stakeholders meeting of the party shortly after a Supreme Court judgment was issued over the leadership tussle in the party.

He said, "Let me assure you, we are Labour Party. I've never discussed with any other party. If we are going to discuss with anybody, we are going to discuss it jointly from our house as Labour Party."

Obi stated that it was time for the Labour Party to ensure that its flagbearer for elective positions are members of the party, not passersby.

He urged the party to take advantage of the situation in the country by rescuing Nigerians from the hardship they are currently facing.
