A Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle, fully loaded with passengers, overturned on the BRT lane at Iyana Ipaja in Lagos, causing injuries to 10 passengers on Friday, August 23, 2024.
The Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) reported that the accident occurred shortly after the bus had left the BRT park at Iyana Ipaja.
The bus collided with an abandoned pedestrian bridge foot just after the Iyana Ipaja bridge, causing it to tip over on its side.
Authorities have confirmed that all 10 victims are currently receiving medical treatment.
“A fully loaded high-capacity bus fell on its side inside the dedicated lane (BRT lane) with a record of 10 casualties (victims), which they were taken care of.”
Reports indicate that LASTMA officials responded to the accident scene to manage the situation and ensure the victims were transported to the hospital.
Motorists and commuters are advised to proceed with caution and adhere to traffic instructions while authorities work to resolve the situation.
"Recovery of the affected vehicles is in progress and it's expected to be completed soonest," LASTMA added.
