The Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, has said the Independence Bridge in the state has been fixed and reopened.
The bridge had been closed for rehabilitation, with Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu saying the decision was taken by the Federal Ministry of Works to avert disaster.
However, the decision led to severe traffic, with many motorists spending hours on the road while many passengers had to trek to their destination.
To ease the pain of the masses, President Bola Tinubu issued a directive which saw the Minister of Works, David Umahi, move to Lagos to reopen the bridge.
Speaking to journalists, Umahi said he was not informed before the bridge was closed. He said the federal controller of works in Lagos closed the bridge without informing him.
He said that, as minister, he should have been informed before the bridge was closed, but she took the decision on her own.
