The Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has been impeached over allegations of abuse of office and gross misconduct.
He was the longest-serving speaker of the Lagos State Assembly.
Obasa, who was impeached on Monday, has been replaced by Mojisola Miranda from Apapa 1 constituency.
Miranda is the first female Speaker in Lagos.
Before becoming speaker, Meranda was the assembly's chief whip and recently served as the deputy speaker.
Obasa is yet to issue a statement on the impeachment as of the time of filing this report.
The impeachment followed a warning he received from President Bola Tinubu and the leadership of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Lagos, against disrespecting Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos and the office of the governor under whatever guise.
Obasa had thrown a punch in public against Sanwo-Olu when the governor visited the assembly to present the 2025 budget.
His action, which was widely condemned, may not be unconnected to the political turmoil he landed in today.
