Kenneth Okonkwo, a chieftain of the Labour Party and a spokesperson for the party in the 2023 presidential elections, says Prince Harry missed an opportunity after he failed to visit wounded ex-servicemen involved in the civil war in Enugu.

Okonkwo, in a post on Instagram, accused the individuals responsible for Prince Harry's itinerary of intentionally failing to include a visit to the East in his plans.

Prince Harry, the youngest son of King Charles, at a reception for military families, said he had met 50 wounded soldiers during a trip to northern Kaduna on Friday. He noted that he could see how the injuries were defining their lives, but some soldiers still had smiles on their faces.

"What this proved to me, what this reminds me of, is the power of seeing what is possible post-injury," said Harry, adding that "seeing the plans for the new Invictus Centre gives me goosebumps."

Okonkwo wrote on Instagram: "The visit of Prince Harry and Meghan to Nigeria to promote the Invictus Games for wounded servicemen without touching down in Enugu, the ancient capital city of Eastern Nigeria, was a missed opportunity. Enugu witnessed the greatest number of wounded Nigerian servicemen who fought on both sides of the Nigerian Civil War."

"The persons who planned his itinerary should take responsibility for this dereliction of duty."

"It would have created a powerful sense of unity among Nigerians if the aged, wounded soldiers who fought on both sides were seen together participating in these sports in Enugu."

"Nigeria stands on a tripod, North, East, and West, and it will always foster greater unity and a sense of belonging if this tripod is carried along in all things."

"Queen and King, may Almighty Father protect you wherever you go in Jesus' powerful name. Amen."

Harry now lives in the United States with Meghan and their two children after he gave up working as a member of the royal family in 2020. He served as a military helicopter pilot in Afghanistan.

Abike Dabiri Erewa, chairperson of the Nigerian Diaspora Commission, brought wide smiles and claps from Meghan when she exclaimed: "Princess Meghan is a Nigerian."
She was referring to a podcast in which Meghan said she had Nigerian heritage.
