Justice Binta Nyako of the Federal High Court in Abuja has recused herself from the trial of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.

This decision follows Kanu’s outburst in court on Tuesday, where he expressed a lack of confidence and trust in the judge. During the proceedings, the IPOB leader reportedly stood up and instructed his lawyer, Aloy Ejimako, to sit down so he could address the court.

As a result, Kanu took over the proceedings and announced that he lacked confidence in Justice Nyako, requesting her to recuse herself.

The federal government lawyer, Adegboyega Awomolo, SAN, opposed Kanu’s request, but the judge insisted on stepping down from the case and preferred another judge to handle the trial.

She ordered that the case file be returned to the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, John Tsoho for reassignment.

Kanu is facing terrorism charges brought against him by the federal government.
