Prominent Nigerian activist Aisha Yesufu has responded to critics following an incident where she remained seated during the singing of the national anthem.

A video that captured Yesufu sitting while others stood at a public event has sparked debate, with some questioning her patriotism.

In her defense, Yesufu pointed out a past incident involving President Bola Tinubu, suggesting that if any arrests were to be made, they should start with him.

She referenced an occasion during the 2023 election campaign where Tinubu reportedly held up a stick while the national anthem was recited.

Yesufu criticized the government for what she perceives as a disregard for citizen involvement in decision-making processes.

She expressed her readiness to face those calling for her arrest, emphasizing her commitment to the nation with the words, "I dey wait for them. We die here. There is no retreat, there is no surrender. This country is our own."
