Is Donald Trump deporting 3.7 million Nigerians from the US?

Several Nigerians may be impacted by President Donald Trump's deportation order following his inauguration on January 20.

During his campaign, Trump pledged to oversee the largest deportation in U.S. history, citing allegations that most crimes in the country were committed by immigrants.

While formalities surrounding the controversial policy are still being finalized, a social media user claims that Nigerians will be among the hardest hit by the proposed deportations.

According to the user with the X handle @Zaddy_Bruh, the policy is expected to affect 3.7 million Nigerians currently residing in the U.S. The claim, posted on Monday, January 20—the same day as Trump's inauguration—suggested the deportations would commence on Tuesday, January 21.

“My goat Donald Trump is deporting all of these people tomorrow. Look who is number 1 on the list," the user wrote on X, accompanied by a list of countries and the estimated number of deportees. Nigeria topped the list with 3.7 million, followed by Bangladesh with 1.9 million, Ghana with 1.2 million, Zimbabwe with 765,000, and Mozambique with 123,000.

The tweet has since gained significant attention, amassing 3 million views, 1,400 replies, 2,100 retweets, 16,000 likes, and 1,600 bookmarks.

On January 20, the 78-year-old president signed executive orders granting the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agency expanded authority. The orders allow ICE to conduct enforcement actions in sensitive areas, increase the pool of undocumented immigrants subject to expedited deportation, and aim to end birthright citizenship.
