Peter Obi, the Labour Party's presidential candidate in the 2023 general election has said Nigerian elections will be fair if honest people conduct them.
Obi spoke at the launch of two books on election security in Abuja on February 19, 2025. He said fair elections depend on the integrity of those in charge.
“I can’t make comment on election policing. I will only just say, it depends on whoever is in charge at the time,” he said.
“So, when we talk about the election, it depends on human being that is involved. If the right person is involved, we would have free and fair elections.” he added
The 2023 presidential candidate, who was the former governor of Anambra State noted that he experienced free and fair elections during President Goodluck Jonathan's administration.
“I went to him as the president and said, Mr. President, I don’t want one vote that is not belonging to me to be recorded for me, and I don’t want one vote to be recorded for another person.
“Just ask the INEC chairman, police officer and people coming here for this election for interest of peace, let them do free and fair election."
Recall that former President Muhammadu Buhari explained why Nigeria still struggles with fair elections.
The Coalition of Southern Groups (CSG) said that if the 2027 presidential election is fair, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu would struggle to win.
They noted rising prices of essentials like rice, flour, sugar, and cement, and said the APC administration is losing popularity.
