The Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has declared that police personnel must immediately stop wearing dark glasses while in uniform.

The IGP made the announcement and directed that it take effect immediately in a statement issued on Tuesday, January 21, 2025.

The police statement titled CB:4001/IGP.SEC/ABJ/VOL.121/104 pointed out that violators will face severe sanctions.

The statement read, “INGENPOL has observed with concern x prevalent practice of personnel wearing dark glasses while in uniform x this attitude reflects poorly on the Force x deemed unacceptable x consequently x INGENPOL directs that henceforth x all police personnel x should refrain from wearing dark glasses x while in uniform x violation of this directive will attract severe disciplinary action x you are to make this subject of lecture x.
