I‘ll open ‘fowl yansh’ - Fubara vows, accuses Wike of owing contractors who completed major projects

Governor Siminalayi Fubara Governor Siminalayi Fubara

Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara has accused his political godfather and predecessor, Nyesom Wike of owing contractors who executed projects in the state.

According to the governor, Fubara regretted the state being indebted to many contractors whose projects had been concluded and commissioned by the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory. He added that the firms the former administration could not pay are now pursuing his government for their payment.

He commented while commissioning the Ebubu-Aleto-Eteo project in Eleme Local Government Area of the State. The project was commissioned by the Governor of Abia State, Alex Otti.

Fubara stated that transparency has remained the watchword of his administration, adding that the government has a white paper that shows the cost of every project it has carried out.

Fubara said the major problem his administration is facing at the time is debts incurred by the past administration. He acknowledged that although he was part of the same government, he has been pushed to the wall.

He said: “For the records, it was awarded to CCECC on the 14th of August by this Administration. As we move forward, we will provide a white paper to show records and amounts. The project was awarded at the cost of N6.7 billion. I can boldly say that we have paid the contractor in full.

“The purpose of this is to let the world know that if there is one problem this administration has, it is debt. Most of the projects that are being commissioned are resulting in contractors coming for their balance payment, running into millions and billions.

“I have said I don’t want to talk. I don’t want to talk because I am part of that system. But when you keep pushing me, I will speak out so that they will see the truth.”
