Chijioke Ihunwo, the newly elected Chairman of Obio Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State, has accused the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, of using young citizens in Rivers State to carry out violent acts in the state.
Ihunwo, a former ally of the former Rivers State governor, accused his former principal of using an unidentified young man to harass and destroy buildings in the state.
He made these allegations in an interview on Arise Television on Tuesday, October 8, following violence and gunfire that erupted in different local government council secretariats in the state.
As the attacks continued, four council secretariats, including Eleme, Emohua, Ikwerre, and Etche, were set ablaze.
It was reported that thugs stormed the Eleme council secretariat around 11 a.m. and set parts of it on fire, preventing the newly sworn-in chairman from accessing the office.
Reacting, he said: "There is a young man from Wike's community who Nyesom Wike is using. I am not afraid, he is using him to shoot guns, harass people, and burn several local government areas in Rivers State. He knows we know them. We have worked with him so we know what he can do. I am not alleging, I am telling you what he is doing so he can also sue me for giving fake information."
"Let me tell Nigerians, power comes from God and if you are giving power, it is not your right but a privilege."
"There should be no need for a state of emergency because Nigeria is so peaceful. What we want is for Mr President to call on Nyesom Wike because he is threatening democracy."
