I hope his friends and the G5 will follow - Fayose says as Wike agrees to join APC

Social and political commentator Isaac Fayose is optimistic that members of the G5 governors will follow FCT Minister Nyesom Wike in defecting to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).

Fayose shared his thoughts in a video on his Instagram page after reports emerged that the former Rivers State governor is set to make the long-anticipated move to the ruling party.

"Congrats to PDP in Nigeria and Rivers State. Congrats, Wike has agreed to leave the party and join APC. I hope his friends, cronies, and the G5 will follow. Bye-bye to Jagba Jagba. PDP can rest now," he said in the video.

A video circulating on social media shows Wike confirming his readiness to leave the PDP for the APC.

In the footage, Wike, speaking to an unidentified individual, appears to negotiate on behalf of himself and his political structure within the state.

"Now that I'm joining APC, I'm leaving PDP for APC. See, this is why I'm leaving PDP to join you. Tell me, are you willing to do all these things you've been doing for me? And when I say for me, I mean for my people—are you willing to do them?" Wike asked.

The other person responded affirmatively, prompting Wike to push further: "Can you announce it to the public so they hear that this is why I'm leaving PDP? Because you say you will do this."

"If that is the case, then when I leave PDP, you will see the senators will go with me, the House of Representatives will go with me, the Assembly will go with me—because it's in the interest of the state, in the interest of the region. Not just for me to seek protection or remain politically relevant."

The G5 governors include Samuel Ortom (former Benue State Governor), Nyesom Wike (former Rivers State Governor), Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (former Enugu State Governor), Okezie Ikpeazu (former Abia State Governor), and Seyi Makinde (Oyo State Governor).
