Nyesom Wike, a chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), says he has no regrets about working against his party in the 2023 presidential elections.

Wike, who is currently serving as FCT Minister for the largest opposition party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), denied allegations that he was involved in anti-party activities by refusing to support the party's presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.

Wike defended his decision in an interview on Channels Television’s Politics Today, stating that he made those decisions for the sake of justice and fairness.

"For the presidential election, I said I am going to support equity, fairness, and justice. In the other one, I am going to support my party, and that is why we won the governorship and National Assembly elections," Wike said.

"For the presidential election, I have no apologies because I don’t believe in injustice. Today, people say ‘discipline Wike, he did anti-party.’ I did not act against the party," Wike said.

Wike, along with four other aggrieved PDP governors, including Samuel Ortom (Benue), Seyi Makinde (Oyo), Okezie Ikpeazu (Abia), and Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi (Enugu), worked against Atiku Abubakar in the lead-up to the 2023 general elections.

The five governors had previously called for the removal of Senator Iyorchia Ayu as PDP national chairman and for the party's presidential ticket to be zoned to the south instead of the north.

Atiku later lost the presidential election to the then-candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Tinubu, under whose government he is currently serving as minister.
