'I fear nothing' - Tension flares as House of Reps accuse Women Affairs Minister of corruption

A heated exchange occurred during the meeting between the Minister of Women Affairs and the Representatives Committee on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. The confrontation arose amidst allegations of corruption within the Ministry.

Recall that the House of Representatives Committee on Women Affairs and Social Development initiated a probe into the N1.5 billion intended for the payment of contractors but allegedly diverted by principal officers of the Ministry.

The House of Representatives raised concerns after the ministry’s contractors petitioned them about the non-payment of contracts worth billions of naira.

In response to the Rep’s complaint the ministry’s Director of Finance, Aloy Ifeakandu, stated during an interactive session with the committee on Thursday, July 4, that he was following official directives from his superiors.

This prompted the Committee to summon Minister Uju Kennedy-Ohaneye to appear before them on Tuesday to clarify the whereabouts of the released funds.

During the meeting with the Minister, a heated argument ensued between the House of Representatives and the Minister.

The Minister dismissed the corruption allegations, stating that she has nothing to hide and has not stolen any money. She described their actions as an attempt to frame her.
