I don’t rule out going back to APC, Labour Party is not impressing me – Kenneth Okonkwo

Lawyer and former spokesperson for the Labour Party Obi-Datti Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 election, Kenneth Okonkwo, has said he does not rule out moving on to other political parties.

Speaking in an interview about his thoughts on the party, the actor turned politician stated that the Labour Party is currently not impressing him.

He said, “I don’t rule out going back to anything because change is constant. My own Labour Party is not impressing me. Assuming they continue in this trajectory where they cannot even hold an acceptable national convention, then you tell me I will be there.”

Kenneth Okonkwo described the leaders of the Labour Party as jokers who want to position themselves as a party of integrity but showcase the opposite.

He said, “Gang of criminals. And you don’t have shame, you can’t come out and tell people that you did a national convention. What are you going to tell the over six million people that voted for you? The whole members wanting to come in, you want to tell them that they won’t even have the right to choose who their leaders are. And you want them to join your party? You’re a joker. Those people, they are clowns. The greatest joke that I have ever seen in any political party. And then you want to position yourself as a party of integrity. You can’t give what you don’t have."

Recall that Okonkwo was a member of the All Progressives Congress but resigned from the APC on July 11, 2022, over the party’s Muslim-Muslim ticket and joined the Labour Party.

However, in May 2024, Okonkwo suspended his affiliation with the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee of the Labour Party (LP).

He cited incompetence and corruption in the Abure-led leadership as reasons for distancing himself from the party.

Kenneth Okonkwo took to his social media page to put out a statement saying, “I am suspending my relationship in all ramifications with the purported Abure-led National Working Committee of Labour Party. For me, it’s either a new Nigeria or nothing. I prefer to lose doing the right thing than to win doing the wrong thing. For me, it’s either a new Nigeria or nothing. I prefer to lose doing the right thing to winning doing the wrong thing."
